iSwiss

Starting from a subject about burlesque titled "C'est idiot!" (that's idiot!), given by a teacher at the school of fine arts of Dijon (France), I've decided to work on the place of computers in our lives, and also the obsession of multi-functionnality rising everywhere, from portable media devices to washing-machine powder, from food to toothpaste, and so on...

So after many attempts i'd come to the idea of using two famous pictures of our society, The swiss-knife, mainly promoted by the compagny "victorinox" (at least in Europe) and the laptop symbolized today by the "iBook" by Apple.. By Mixing them together i try to show that computer is getting more and more place in our life today, like playing our music, connecting us with friends, giving the news, watching a video, write a letter...and so much things i'd enjoy personnally. Computer helps you doing almost everything you need today, just like a swiss knife...BUT :

Is the swiss knife is really the best tool to cut something? is it really well done so that you can screw easily? can you really use the magnifying glass it has? Of course you can but we know there are tool especially made for, that will help you better...

Anyway i found an old Dell laptop which was not working anymore, and began to heavily mod it, by now, everything is fully fonctionnal and usable. Knife, toothbrush, corkscrew, screwdriver, hair brush, witha strap to put on your shoulder. i've also made a little flyer to promote it in the whole school which you have a preview on the bottom right (it's not because there is a price written that's it's for sale, it was just to make it more credible )..i'm working on a little website for it also, and idealy i'd like to make it usable as a computer too...

Finally, My work leads to the question "is a computer really is always the best tool?"
